The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has announced that the organization will now have two executive directors. This is a major change, as there has always been just one executive director until now. This step could have implications for the Ethereum price, as the foundation is taking a new direction.
Who are the new executive directors of the Ethereum Foundation?
From March 17, Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak will jointly take charge of EF. They will succeed Aya Miyaguchi, who was previously the sole executive director. Miyaguchi will take on a new role: she will become president of the Ethereum Foundation.
Hsiao-Wei Wang has been working for EF for many years. She helped develop the Beacon Chain and was committed to the community in Taiwan. She also spent seven years doing research within the organization. Wang said that EF will continue to change, just like Ethereum itself. Yet EF’s core values will always remain the same.
Tomasz Stańczak is the founder of Nethermind, a well-known company within the Ethereum community. He brings a great deal of technical knowledge to the table. He also has experience building teams and growing organizations.

Aya Miyaguchi becomes president of the Ethereum Foundation
Aya Miyaguchi was executive director for seven years. Now she has a new role as president of the Ethereum Foundation. In this position she will focus primarily on strategy and external collaborations. Her time as executive director received mixed reactions from the community. Some people felt she was not innovative enough and not competitive enough. Her new role will allow room for new ideas in the daily management of EF.
This change is part of a larger shift within Ethereum. In recent years, Vitalik Buterin still had a lot of influence on the direction of Ethereum. Some critics, such as Charles Hoskinson, felt that Ethereum was too dependent on Buterin. By appointing two executive directors, that influence is now more evenly distributed. With this move, EF is showing that it is serious about decentralization, including within its own organization.
Why did the community choose Danny Ryan?
In an informal poll within the community, another name emerged as the favorite leader: Danny Ryan. He received 99% of the votes. Yet Ryan will not become an executive director. Instead, he and Vivek Raman will start a new project: Etherealize. Etherealize focuses on marketing and product development for institutional parties within the Ethereum ecosystem. This gives Ryan an important role after all, but outside of the Ethereum Foundation itself.
